These are not in-depth gear reviews, just a short synopsis of the gear we use, and love.
Big Agnes Copper Spur UL2 Tent

Big Agnes Copper Spur UL2 Tent
This is out go-to tent when comfort is more important than weight. Although not all that heavy at around four pounds, it is not ideal for backpacking. This tent is very easy to set up, roomy for two people and some gear, lets in plenty of air and light though the screened doors, and deals well with condensation. The tent has held up well after five years of use. We love this tent.

Black Diamond Carbon Z Trekking Poles

Black Diamond Carbon Z Trekking Poles
We have been using the Black Diamond Trekking Poles for eight years now and love them. Ultra light weight and robust, they fold into a very small package. When I first purchased them, they were so light that I thought they would only last a year or two, but they are still going strong. I did break a tip off when it became wedged between some rocks when crossing a stream, but I was able to purchase a replacement part from Black Diamond and it was fairly easy to replace.

Osprey Backpacks

Osprey Backpacks
As you can see from the photo above, we love these packs. We own five of them, giving us a size option for every outdoor occasion. From a short day hike to multiple-day backpacking trips, these packs offer great flexibility. Tons of pockets and tie-ons, fairly light weight and, really sturdy.

Enlightened Equipment Quilts

Enlightened Equipment Quilt
I found this company, Enlightened Equipment, online a few years ago when looking for a lightweight quilt for backpacking. The idea behind the quilt, as opposed to a sleeping bag, is that it is open at the bottom – the area which would be between you and your pad. In this area the down fill in a sleeping bag compresses under your weight, therefore offering no insulation. So the quilt eliminates that part to save weight (it comes in at just under 20 ounces). It can also be opened up and wrapped around you while sitting in camp.
Our quilts are 850 down fill, rated at 20 degrees and we have used them at temperatures close to that and stayed toasty warm. They can also be opened up and used as a blanket in warmer temperatures. These quilts and the company that makes them, Enlightened Equipment, are great!
